Talks are underway between Government and Transport bosses in the North to look at unlocking lines in Cheshire.
Tatton MP Esther McVey called for an update on progress over the Mid Cheshire rail line during Common’s Transport Questions today (THURS) following a meeting with Government in the constituency over the summer.
Transport Minister Paul Maynard: “I was pleased to meet with her and the Mid Cheshire Rail group in her constituency in August. Since that we have been liaising with Transport for the North, she will be aware that one of our key strategic corridors is the Wales and the West stretch in the North West. They are looking at how the Mid Cheshire Rail Line scheme fits in to those proposals and I hope to hear more in due course.”
Ms McVey secured the meeting after repeatedly raising the issue since being elected in June. She believes local transport links are vital to the economy.
Ms McVey added: “I am pleased to hear the issues are being discussed and I will keep asking the department and ministers for progress updates on unlocking the Mid Cheshire Rail Link lines and the Manchester Airport Western Link. Transport links are vital and we need to be able to connect our towns and connect Mid Cheshire to Manchester so we can continue to thrive and take cars off the overcrowded and clogged roads.”
